Week 9 Manual Therapies

- How did the activity go: Did the postural analysis tell you anything new that you didn’t know about yourself?
I wasn’t aware that my slouching over the years has caused my shoulders to stoop forward, and my cervical spine to become rounded. This may be why I carry tension there. I don’t do many exercises to keep my upper body strong and mobile. I didn’t have anyone to take this photo today, however the outline of my body using the door frame (idea from another student) helped me see this clearly. I think my hips and knees are fairly straight. I don’t have any other significant pain except in between my shoulders.
- Explain why a plumbline could be useful
The plumbline helped me see the way I stand side on. It’s not something we see easily in ourselves. It’s prompted me to work on improving my posture. A myotherapist or other modality practitioner could help me improve the tension in my upper back with muscle release techniques, excercise recommendations and re-education on posture.
