Sense organs brief description

Excerpts from previous naturopathy assignments HLT60512.  Sense organs brief description

Vision

Light hits rods and cones at the back of the eye and travels to the visual vortex in the occipital lobe via the optic nerve.

Hearing

The cochlear nerve transfers vibrations to the auditory cortex in the temporal lobe first then to the parietal and frontal lobes in the cerebral cortex for processing.

Smell

Olfactory receptors in the nose transfer smell along the olfactory nerve to the ‘bulb’ in the limbic system which is part of the telencephalon, diencephalon, and mesencephalon.

Taste

Gustatory receptors (taste buds) send information to the gustatory cortex found in the frontal lobe of the brain.
