Weeks 7&8 Homeopathy

Tutorial:
Construct a brief written case study, based on a current or past health situation of your own, or somebody close to you who has given you their permission to discuss here (you could even ask a pet). If using the health information of another person, be sure to seek their permission and signature on a ‘Patient Consent for Publication’ form prior to sharing their details on the forum.
Discussion Questions for Tutorial:
Post your brief case study. • Which prescribing techniques covered during this session might be utilised by a homeopath in this situation?
• How would you justify your chosen technique/s with reference to homeopathic philosophy and principles?* I’m integrating a few prescribing techniques from TCM and Naturopathy here too!
For this exercise I’ve chosen an issue that has been helped greatly by lifestyle and dietary choices, and awareness of holistic factors influencing this pattern of disease. For Chronic Fatigue and Depression, I have chosen LesionalPrescribing Techniques, because I don’t see the disease as primarily Constitutional, or Fundamentalrather it’s engrafted on the constitution due to external factors (though it may carry some constitutional and fundamental features). Other techniques mentioned in this week’s lecture;tautopathic, isopathic, aetiological and organopathicprescribing may have use in this case, depending on how it is addressed, specifically Organopathy, to gently detoxify affected organs e.g. liver, digestion, lungs, as part of a holistic treatment plan. If I took the case (below) with a Lesional prescribing mindset, I might precede with Organopathy or detoxification first to place the body into a more vital state for the remedies given. Endeavour lecture 8 states: Lesional Prescribing focuses on: ‘Symptoms and characteristics of the disease (local, general, and mental symptoms occurring during disease expression, and aetiological factors)’. Additionally, it is: ‘Commonly used in acute prescribing‘. It has ‘Focus of LSMC method‘, it ‘uses symptoms of the disease or clinical entity‘, and ‘Mental and chronic symptoms are not considered except where concomitant to the disease‘. In the case below, I would say that mental and chronic symptoms are actually concomitants (occurring at the same time) as the underlying causation.
Chronic Fatigue and Depression
- Depression / Sadness – Holding in emotions. Low blood count with feelings of heaviness and lethargy. Craving carbohydrates – Nervous energy from to much food
- Pensiveness – Lower back ache, tension in shoulders and neck, with feelings of being stuck in going forward – and of lacking energy & resources
- Worry – with mild shortness of breath and no anxiety
Location
Face, Neck, Shoulders, Stomach, Spleen, Small intestine, Lungs, Large Intestine, Liver, Blood, Kidneys, Bone Marrow, Lower back
Sensation
Sadness, Crying, Pensiveness, Worry, Aches and pains
Modality
Better for, lying down, cool room, warm bath, sunlight, warm or cool drink – has varying appearing and disappearing sensation of thirst and likes coffee and stevia sweetened cordial. Dislikes water, warmth applied to aching areas, gentle stretching and yoga, meat, rice, vegetables, apples, soy milk, salty food, sweet biscuits, setting goals, routines, company
Worse for
Vigorous walking or exercises, sitting, hunger, greasy /fatty food and dairy, cloudy days, solitude, loud noises, large crowds, stuffy rooms : artificial heating / dry heat
Concomitants
Alternating diarrhoea and constipation, rash on chest worse for heat, aches and pains – appear and disappear in face, neck, hands, hip, kneestongue pale pink with a few red patches at tip and light white coating, light pulse normal.
Teacher Feedback
Interesting case analysis Heather 🙂
‘I agree with your justifications. I guess the deciding question as to whether the case needs lesional or fundamental/constitutional would be the duration of the condition? If this is brand new and only occurring for a few weeks/month then it could still be acute, however, if the CFS/depression had been ongoing, then it would be chronic in nature and needs a deeper look into the causation and specific symptoms. Lesional really is for physical symptoms and acute (definition of acute is less than 3 months and would usually resolve itself without medicine or end in death – dramatic I know, but that’s the definition!!!)’
What do you think?
Yes, makes sense now! I see the description talks about acute symptoms and I missed that. The symptoms have been longer than 3 months, and are potentially both constitutional and fundamental. If I took the case with Fundamental prescribing techniques – The mental and generals, are considered as factors along with the above LSMC case taking to identify other things influencing disease! It’s like the next step in addressing disease of a chronic nature upon the constitution. Thank you for your feedback. That’s a lot clearer now!
